Monday was not a fruitful day for me but I’m pleased to say that there are a few grilse about. Sandy MacFarlane tells me that several fish came into the Bay the previous week including Colin Lewis with two grilse and on Saturday at least five boats returned with fish…….’Don’t ask me for names…….’ says Sandy.

While I was having lunch north of Ptarmigan, Duncan Ferguson passed by declaring two grilse. He had taken a fish of 8lbs in the morning at the golf course and a smaller fish at Mill O’Ross in the early afternoon. I believe that a blue and silver toby accounted for both. Well done Duncan….leave me a few!

The Balloch boys are back up at the top end for the week. Andy Campbell had two fish on Monday, one at the Cave and the other on the road shore. As far as I’m aware silver and copper tobies were the favoured lures.

There doesn’t seem to very much happening on the Leven just now as the river is very low. I am assured however that many of the fish caught in the Loch just now are still sea liced. Perhaps they’re coming up river at night ‘commando style’ on their bellies and using a springboard to get over the barrage!

Yesterday I learned that the Vale camp at the top end has now taken about nine fish including Andy Campbell with three, Donald Brown two and Donnie McKinnon with a salmon of 16lbs . Great stuff guys, the top of the Loch has been quiet for a few weeks. Vale fisher John McClurg tells me he lost a fish at the golf course yesterday morning. He later passed a Balmaha boat just south of Rowardennan which had a 10lb fish onboard and a Balloch boat at Inchfad with a smaller fish.

There can be no doubt that the summer run is in and with the weather looking favourable for the weekend I know where I’ll be!
