River Leven

The month of May has started off pretty much as we’d expect with spring salmon coming to the net. With the barrage gates down the river’s in good condition for decent sport. Numerous reports of fish moving through and a few crackers landed.

1 May: Derek Hughes starts off his season with a real fresh bar of silver (14lbs) caught at the top pool.

2 May: Chic McLean off the mark with his first springer (14lbs) at the Bucks on a black flying – c

Other reports: 25  April, Willie Little (15lbs) Chapel Hole, flying – c. 1 May, Scott Laird (13lbs) Glebe Corner, worm.

Anglers are advised that worming is allowed from the 1st May using circle hooks only.

Loch Lomond

With the  gates open the spring run won’t hang about the Leven for long. Over the past few years June has seen the best fishing on the Loch but already fish are coming to the troll with Donald Brown landing his first yesterday (9lbs) off the mouth of the Fruin. Still cold out there though…..

Leven Clean Up

Provisional dates of Saturday 2nd/ Sunday 3rd of June have been set for a deep clean of the river. This will of course depend on whether the Loch level is low enough for Scottish Water to close the gates. We’ll post an update nearer  the time.

Pike Fly Fishing Competition

The first ‘Pike Fly Fishing Competition’ will be held on the Loch on Sunday 17th of June. This event is sponsored by Glasgow Angling Centre with some excellent prizes to be won.  It is open to boat and bank anglers and full details and rules will be published very shortly. For further information meantime contact  Alan Armstrong by email at coarse@lochlomondangling.com

Catch Returns

Might still be early in the year but we need to plan ahead and ensure that all catch returns are submitted. Members and associate members should note that the electronic ‘catch register’ proved to be problematic and has been disabled meantime. We are working on a replacement which should be online before the end of season.
