Our ongoing fight against Cat 3 reaches another milestone. The ECCLR committee meets on Tuesday 13 March to debate the instrument laid before them which will update the legislation governing conservation of salmon.

Normally this type of business would be conducted during a one day session but Marine Scotland staff have now been called to give evidence to the committee and the vote will be deferred till Tuesday 20 March.

Jackie Baillie has been very supportive throughout our campaign and her letter to the committee is contained within. We have lobbied all committee members, forwarding a briefing paper explaining the history of this policy and the flawed methodology used by MSS to determine conservation status. On 30 October 2017 our committee met with Marine Scotland and Marine Scotland Science staff and outlined specific objections which we were assured would be resolved. Our FOI requests also show that since 30 October MS have done nothing to address our concerns despite direction from the Cabinet Minister at our  meeting in December.

Feedback informs us that our briefing paper has raised a lot of interest in the matter among ECCLR committee members and we expect that there will be a probing debate on the matter. The LLAIA chairman and secretary will attend parliament to listen to proceedings.

The meeting can be viewed live on parliament TV or later in the archives.
